August 3, 2015-Major Marine Northwestern Kenai Fjords Cruise, dinner at Ray's Waterfront

SEWARD

Breakfast in our room of coffee and MIL pastries.  I have pre booked this 8 1/2 hr. cruise with Major Marine.  I get a 20% discount because I have also booked a Prince William Sound cruise with them.  Cost with tax $347.68 for the 2 of us.  Check in at the boat harbor is at 8:00 am.  Our boat is the Viewfinder which holds 36 passengers max.  Our captain is Ian and Kaylee is the boat's helper.  We start boarding at 8:30 am.  There are blueberry muffins and coffee for breakfast.  We go through Resurrection Bay, Ciswell Islands, Granite Passage, Harris Bay, th Northwestern Fjord.  We see Northwestern, Anchor, and Ojive glaciers.  The scenery is stunning.  There's a bit of fog early but nice weather later.  We see tons of orcas.  There is a resident pod of 4-5 and as I'm standing at the bow/front of the boat an orca swims out from under the boat right in front of me.  I get some good pictures.  Sea lions, sea birds, puffins, bald eagle, otters, seals on ice foes, mountain goat, cormorants, a humpback whale.  A very good day for wildlife sightings.  Lunch is deli style and consists of a turkey sandwich, hummus with pretzels, cut up carrots & celery, bag of lettuce for the sandwich, protein snack bar, cheese, an apple, brownie and soda.  A lot of food.  This was a well executed trip and thoroughly enjoyed by myself and my husband.  Major Marine did a very good job.  There is a jar for tips that I notice even though no mention is made so I do leave a tip in appreciation for such a great day.

Back to town I decide dinner will be at RAY'S WATERFRONT.  We can walk there from our hotel.  We have a short wait and get a table right by the window with a harbor view!  Richard says he's not that hungry after all he ate on the boat so he orders a bowl of the halibut/codfish/potato chowder and Ray's house salad.  I order the 10 oz. NY steak (Richard will end up eating half of my steak) which comes with garlic mashed potatoes and broccoli.  Very tasty.  Bill is $63 with tip included.
